All of our engineer team leads are truly full-stack: We have no time for knowledge silos and we do everything we can to make sure our engineers are able to work on anything, and everything. A typical day in engineering can mean creating infrastructure using Terraform, debugging the inner-workings of one of our Python applications or writing a shiny new React component for use in our quote engine.

As an engineering team lead your duties will be a 50/50 split between developing and typical line management responsibilities.

We’re a tech start up, not an established insurance brand - this means the pace is fast, the days are varied, but the work is energetic and very rewarding. Expect to collaborate with other departments across the brand from marketing to customer service, and data to claims.


Responsibilities 

• Develop backend services, ideally using Python and Django
• Develop modern front end apps, ideally using TypeScript, React and Redux
• Design REST APIs
• Deploy your code to production and support it, ideally on AWS
• Champion best practices like automated testing and continuous deployment
• Play an active role in agile ceremonies like retrospectives and sprint planning
• Manage engineers performances and absences, as well as one-to-ones and actively assisting in their personal and educational development
• Manage stakeholder communication
• Report on the relevant engineering KPIs
• Owning various engineering initiatives.

Requirements 

The successful candidate will ideally have: 

• 1-2 years experience managing and mentoring people, as well as communicating with stakeholders
• Proven ownerhsip of an engineering initiative
• Excellent communication and organisation skills 
• Knowledge in Agile development practices 
• Ability to breakdown and solve problems 
• Commerical experience with software development of front-end or backend development 
• Experience with unit testing
• Experience of using cloud providers 
• Commercial experience with data store (SQP/NoSQL) design and development

Brief

CrowdComms are looking for a Senior API developer to join our ambitious product development team. We have a roadmap full of exciting features and we’re looking for a talented API developer to work with the Lead Systems Architect to deliver new functionality to an already feature-rich platform used by many of the world’s leading companies.

Reporting into and working with the Lead Systems Architect, helping to guide and mentor the mid-weight API developers, as well as working with the Product Director & Front-end developers you’ll be an integral part of the product development team.

ABOUT THE JOB

As a Web Developer in the Development Team your main objective is to deliver and maintain software applications. You will be a key player in an enthusiastic and motivated agile development team. You will focus on the front-end technology with opportunity to work and develop in Java Development and Devops if desired. You will be developing high value technology solutions to support and streamline business processes.

We are always looking to leverage new technologies and are currently undergoing a migration to Azure. As an example, in our previous ‘innovation friday’ session the team developed logic apps, function apps and lambdas. We have the benefit of being part of a large organisation in Admiral Group yet the freedom to leverage new tech to gain an advantage.

Remote working – UK based – would require occasional travel to the office for meetings/training.

Qualifications & Skills

We have 14 engineers at Veygo, with varying backgrounds and experience which gives us great platform to be creative and find solutions, with the customer at the heart of our process.

We’re really passionate about building great software, using modern technologies, following industry best practices and a mantra of win or learn.
